Lake Quinsigamond Commission

The Commission is a distinct and separate entity from the
Watershed Association. (visit their web site)

November 2005, Rules and Regulations of Lake Quinsigamond

Massachusetts Boating Laws

A unique feature of Lake Quinsigamond is its special regulatory council created to govern the uses and abuses of its water. This distinction is shared with no other similar body of waters in the commonwealth. By the creation of this council, the State of Massachusetts recognized the special recreational characteristics of this lake. In 1916 a legislative act created the first Lake Quinsigamond Commission. This council was strictly an advisory body and therefore was largely ineffective. In 1936, Amendment Chapter 181 was adopted and other amendments followed creating the present day Lake Quinsigamond Commission. Its powers now cover any matter that directly or indirectly affects the waters of Lake Quinsigamond.

The Commission Consists Of:
Kenneth Polito, Chairman
John Wilson
James Gallagher

Tristan Lundgren
Michael Paika
James J. Hester

One person appointed by county commissioners

Worcester Chief of Police, ex officio

Shrewsbury Chief of Police, ex officio

One member of the Worcester Conservation Commission appointed by the city manager

One member of the Shrewsbury Conservation Commission appointed by the town moderator

One member of the Grafton Conservation Commission appointed by the town moderator

Three members from within Worcester, Grafton and Shrewsbury who are residential landowning abutters on Lake Quinsigamond who are appointed by the county commissioners

Law enforcement of the lake commission's regulations are carried out in a collaborative manner by Worcester and Shrewsbury Police. Both of these organizations maintain launches which patrol the waters of the lake during the summer. The Worcester Lake Police Station is located at Regatta Point Park, and the Shrewsbury Police docking facilities are located near 125 South Quinsigamond Avenue.
